Meet the Chin Aesthetics Team

This site is led and medically reviewed by Ke He, MD, head of skin and laser aesthetics in the Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital, who is responsible for the medical content. The other three physicians contribute what an assessment of the chin often needs: the center’s surgical standards and its experience of revision, the bone operations that change the framework when the framework is the finding, and the dermatologic care of the skin over the chin and of any reaction to an injectable.

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Chin assessment · bone, bite and soft tissue as separate findings · injectable planning and honest referral

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service — and she is the lead physician of this site. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

On this site her part is the assessment that decides which of the three structures is producing the complaint. She measures the chin against the lower lip rather than looking at it on its own, works out whether the shortfall is in front of the bone or in the bone itself, and reads the bite before an injectable plan is discussed, because an unsettled bite changes the answer. Where the finding is soft tissue she will say that an injectable is the honest route and that it can be dissolved; where the finding is the framework she will say so, including to patients who arrived expecting an injection rather than a referral.

Clinical focus

  • Measuring chin projection, height and width against the lower lip
  • Separating a bone shortfall from a soft tissue shortfall
  • Reading the bite before any injectable plan is made
  • Reversible injectable plans with a stated ceiling
  • Referral for bone surgery where the framework is the finding

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Laser Medicine Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Facial Rejuvenation Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch

Reversible first, and honest about the ceiling

Most patients arrive asking which material is best. The assessment is not about the material. It establishes how much of the shortfall is in front of the bone and how much is the bone, because that decides whether a reversible injectable is the honest route or a delay. Where an injectable reaches the finding it is a reasonable first step and it can be undone. Where the framework is the finding, saying so early is the more useful answer.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards and complex revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

Within this site his part is the standard any operation on the chin has to meet and the backstop behind it, including the assessment of a chin that has been operated on before and has not settled as expected.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Aesthetic surgery · bone operations on the lower face

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is refinement and honest referral: he is the person who says so when an operation will do better than an injectable or a device.

Within this site his part is the bone: the placement of an implant, the planning of a chin that has to change length as well as projection, and the judgement of whether the bite has to be settled before either is done.

Clinical focus

  • Aesthetic surgical assessment and refinement of contour and asymmetry
  • Honest referral when surgery outperforms a course of injections
  • Shared case planning within the four-physician team
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · the skin over the chin and the tissue around it

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Within this site his part is the skin rather than the shape: the surface changes that are mistaken for shape problems, and the dermatologic care of skin that has reacted to an injectable, including the assessment of a lump or a delayed reaction.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Start with the structure, not the treatment

An assessment establishes which structure is producing the complaint, what each route would change, and what each would leave exactly as it is. It is reasonable to leave having decided against treatment.
